Was the good boy good in the first place? — a TXT review

So, we've all seen it coming. TXT's gradual(?) maturation.. the paradigm from being cute little schoolboys realising what their emotions signify to... I don't even know what this is anymore.. edgy teenagers? Yes, I'm aware that this is probably lore but I think I'm more focused on the sound of a song rather than what it enunciates for the group themselves.

Overall, the song doesn't play on any particularly ear-catching melodies or instrumental/melodic choices and just circles around the tenacious pop-rock adjacent soundscape, even if it attempts to narrow it down to minimalistic EDM during the verses and the Prechorus.

Good boy gone bad seems to be the very average almost one-tone track that seemed to be extremely overhyped even before release. I don't actually hate a lot of TXT's music but this by far definitely has to be one of their worst. I'd definitely listen to lovesong instead of this.. I really wanted something very bright and funky like their bside no rules because I know very well that TXT executes that kind of sound extremely well, especially with the unique tones of their members' voices.. but I guess a girl can only dream!

On the contrary, the MV wasn't as bad as I'd thought, and honestly successfully provides a good visual aid for the song, which I felt was extremely bland without. The b-sides of the album, however, are nothing short of a treat! If I were to only look at b-sides, this album is already their best.. my personal favourite would have to be Trust Fund Baby with its own little chime and bell instrumental and soft, poignant melody that definitely pulled on my heartstrings when I first listened to it. I also really enjoyed Thursday's Child Has Far To Go and Opening Sequence with their EDM and dance-rock adjacent sound types that I heavily seem to resonate with!!

MY OBJECTIVE TAKE:

Hook: 6/10

Replayability: 6/10

Production: 7.5/10

Structure: 8/10

B-Sides: 10/10

MY SUBJECTIVE TAKE [OVERALL]:

8/10
