After almost 2 years of waiting, the MNH girls, a.k.a BVNDIT are back with a full-blown mini album! packed with styles ranging from reggaeton-esque to deep bass EDM to house, BVNDIT approached us yet again, proving their capabilities as a standout 5-membered girlgroup. They're all-rounders to the point that ALL five members can and DO sing, rap and dance throughout this album. I know for one that I didn't skip a single song from the album. Did you?
Obviously, most of us were majorly upset that they dropped the SONG OF THE YEAR back in 2020 and just.. dipped. Having some of the most powerful performances (including dance, rap and vocals) in the 4th gen girlgroup scene yet being from such an unpredictable company, this was a given. But Venom I feel, really helped in solidifying their purpose actually.
I feel like even though I've heard the motor revving sound in like a million songs before, BVNDIT just managed to completely own it in the song. Every single one of the members having a rap section in the song was definitely an eye-opener for me. Personally, BVNDIT is just a girlgroup with a very distinct identity and I feel like no matter what they do, they'll still manage to adhere to their apparent concept and sound. The guitar in the prechorus is a perfect slide in from the thick pitched bass and the bridge being an escalating section bridging into the last chorus with a refrain is absolutely perfect beyond words. The addition of an outro also adds to a very polished and levelled-off finish to the song.
The MV is also a great visual aid to the song, providing something for the viewers to look at while also not deterring their focus completely from the musicality of the song. I enjoyed the monochrome to polychrome transitions between the cutscenes and the camera movements made a lot of sense with the song in itself.
The thing I like with this mini is that the tracklist consists of individually very powerful songs, yet the title track was chosen perfectly and does a great job of summing up the tracklist in its diversity. The intro is a perfect introduction to the album, bringing about the cynical soundscape, parts of which we see in venom. Jiggy has to be by far, my favourite track in the album with its future bass-esque EDM soundscape and with just how their voices just gel in so well with the song to the point that I feel like I wouldn't care that much if any other group released this one. It's as if they just know what their audience wants and gave it to us for free. I have no clue if it's just me or I felt as if their voices in Awaken were just very oddly mixed in general.. but this reggaeton-influenced track is just all the more catchy the more I listen to it (+ THE DANCE BREAK!!)! Lastly, with Don't mess with me, I'm aware not a lot of people like slightly softer surge EDM tracks but this one would have to be my favourite after Jiggy. It just has that elevating element with it's multitracked instrumental when meshed with their voices, making it the perfect way to end the album, especially with the surprising ending and the sudden change in beat, picking it up and dropping it with the highest momentum.
